The Dangers of Our Degraded Water System

There have been protests and the growing demand from the public to pay close attention to our water system. Many programs had been formulated for the advancement of technologies for water conservation, but the government is missing the point.

Water is life. We would die in three days without water. Our body can’t go on with its complex processes without water that will help metabolize and circulate nutrients, oxygen and blood in our body. With the increasing pollutants in our environment, our water system is at stake. Dams and watersheds have gone dry, rivers become polluted and our drinking water has been contaminated with chemicals. With this condition in our water system, we are at risk.

There have been protests and the growing demand from the public to pay close attention to our water system. Many programs had been formulated for the advancement of technologies for water conservation, but the government is missing the point. Officials haven’t thought that our environment, particularly our water system is the key to a successful nation. With polluted water, our body defense system would weaken until we got in contact with intestinal diseases like cholera and diarrhea. And since we make the workforce of our society, when we get sick, our country’s governance is also affected as it would mean extra cost for hospital fees and medicare services.

The basic thing that we could have done is to plant trees to save our water system. Trees preserve the water content in our soil and prevent our environment from droughts and famines. With trees also, our environment will be free from toxic chemicals as trees will purify them in the process. Ever heard of mercury and lead poisoning from water consumption? It’s true. And to solve it, we should plant trees and use new technologies in filtering our water system like reverse osmosis and filtration systems. Remember, our lives are at stake here with contaminated water. We must be aware of these things. Who knows this could save us.
