The Death Penalty
The death penalty ought to be used in a just society.
The quote “An eye for an eye” basically means that if you take an eye, or anything, I’ll take it back. And in this case, it’s a life. What would you think if a criminal, or a serial killer, killed a person? Some people say that it’s cruel to take another’s life, but I think different. If you kill someone, then you should be killed. “An eye for an eye.” I know that it’s very expensive to execute someone, but isn’t it more expensive when you put them in a jail for the rest of their life? Like a case of a 12-year-old boy killed another kid with a baseball bat. He was put into jail for the rest of his life; and we, the taxpayers, have to pay for it! We have to pay for about 70 years of food and many other things for about 70 years! I know that it might be less or more, but a person’s life is really long!
The resolutions is “That the death penalty ought not to be used in a just society.” If you define these words, the death penalty means a humane execution made by government. Ought not means should not. Just means fair, and society means a group of people living together. So if we put our resolution in a defined form, it is “ That the humane execution made by the government should not be used in a fair group of people living together.”
Weighing Mechanism
The affirmative should win if prove that the death penalty should not be use in the society. The negative should win if they prove that the death penalty should be used in the society.
Argument 1
The money that’s used during the execution is a lot. 1.6 million dollars. But other decisions decided by juries, such as jail for life, costs way more. We, as taxpayers, do not want to pay a crime its life’s money. If someone done a severe crime, such as murdering, we want them to be killed so that we don’t have to pay for their life. Even if you put them to a jail for life, they can escape and the jail for life will become the number 1 must catch person for life, and that probably costs more.
Argument 2
My claim is that people will feel safer with the capital punishment in their society. Crimes will probably hold off their bad doings if they know that there is a severe punishment that’s waiting for them. Also, some crimes who later turned Christian might want death, because for some, they think death is a next adventure.
Argument 3
My claim is we must have the death penalty in the society because as a kid, you do something bad, and you get punished. I used the computer to play games when I wasn’t supposed to, and that resulted me banned from playing games until I am a legal adult. So according to this example, if someone killed someone, then they should be killed. Its “an eye for an eye,” and in this case, “a life for a life.”

I disagree completely with this article. I understand the concept of “an eye for an eye,” but it does not apply to this situation. Here’s why: First, the government is not on an equal standing with criminals, and serves to create, interpret, and enforce the laws. Punishment is not the business of the government. Second, consider your taxes well spent. If these criminals were not in jail, they’d be out in society. You are paying to keep yourself safe from these dangerous indivisuals. Most importantly however, there have been INNOCENT people unjustly killed by the death penalty. OOPS…All we can do is throw money at the victim’s greiving family and hope they feel all better. Becuase there is no way to be 100% sure of a criminal being guilty, capital punishment should be abolished. End of story.
