The End of Mad

This is an ironclad argument saying there will be no escape from massive warfare. trust me, there is no alternative.

There are three if not more defenses are being developed to stop nuclear warheads from detonating on their targets. There is the patriot missile system, each unit being a missile turret whose missiles are meant to target and intercept missiles at a medium to short range (in terms of ballistic missiles). (”army-technology.com”) There is a larger missile intercept system meant to hit missiles at medium to long range. (”ipernity.com”) There is a Boeing outfitted with two laser turrets meant to target and explode missiles as they launch.(fin) Fully deployed, these systems could stop most missiles fired from anywhere in the world.

The result may seem to be good, however due to rising political tensions it is sure to be devastating to the world as a whole and possibly cause more damage than MAD itself. There are several ways to “stem the tide” or in some way minimize the damage caused by this. Quantum or particle theory states that one can only measure either the spin or the velocity, but not both at the same time, and because of the observation the particle changes in both properties. Other examples lead in similar directions, such as Murphy’s Law, which states that the worst will happen at the worst possible moment, or Journey’s statement that change is the only constant. In effect, if a probable outcome is made into a statement, it should likely be averted almost entirely on the basis that it is a statement. Another way to limit the results is to create military plans for each of the probable outcomes and exploit the most advantageous ones through politics, or in other words “pick your own fight.” Lastly, there is a strategy few have chosen, and that is to get a lot of imperishable supplies, and dig a deep hole.

As it is humanity is hopelessly mired in warfare and will only stop whenever there are no means of continuing. The only way to stop war, or limit it to a manageable amount, is to create a need not to fight, such as MAD. Given that technology will not stop advancing, there is a chance a technology able to limit war will be developed, such as space travel or mind control or even overabundant resources.

There will always be war; the question is how do we manage the cost? While old technologies have both enabled us to produce vast resources and completely destroy the earth, new technologies will enable us to do the same thing without radiation. The solution to controlling the beast within us is difficult to find, but is just as important as ending MAD.

As a note several people, possibly more, do fully believe that there will be a nuclear war within two to three years. While most of the population may believe otherwise such ghastly events have occurred before, and it is believe higher ranking personnel within the U.S. military believe this to be so.  Numerous religious and scientific/ logical signs point to the same thing, at the same time. This is not reason to panic, or even to be militaristic or even nonchalant about. This is simply a clear and present danger, a possibility we should prepare for in the same way as we would prepare for the end of MAD, and organize a reaction to the threat.

The rationale about how societies think they are surviving and are actually being self-destructive is dealt with in terms of history and what mankind has done in the past in Jared Diamond’s book “Collapse: How Societies choose to fail or succeed”.
I keep wondering when something or someone will stop or police the global economy before it self-destructs, and I have come to the conclusion that it will self-destruct before any remedy is applied. The world’s natural resources (such as fish in international waters) will simply be used up before anybody does anything.
