The Fast Food Latte
The misnomer of a fast food specialty coffee.
The other day I went through the McDonald’s drive trough and ordred a sugar-free vanilia latte. It’s was good- all for under 3 dollars.
Drive Thru Nation
Drive thru windows abound- the drive thru pharmacy, bank, and restaurant. And now, you can get a latte at the McDonald’s near you.
Drive thrus are symptomatic of our larger cultural value of convience. Frozen dinners, mobile banking, and instant messaging move our lives at an astounishing pace. We know what we want when we want it and we want it now. Or better yet, yesterday.
If everything becomes instant, what happens to hard work? Or waiting for something new to happen? Or what happens when our machines break? Do we forget how things worked?
A Different Way to Live
Some people I work with are going to do a challenge in the month of April. We are giving up TV and computer games, instant messaging and texting. We want to unplug from our lives so as to learn how to live in a greater way.
So if you want to, join with us in embracing the ordinary. We are working to revisit our families, invest in ourselves and in our communities.
That latte was good, but left a weird after-taste.
Liked it

I did that for seven years. I can give up the tv dinners (mostly), don’t watch tv anyway, but I love my computer!
