The Field of Empty Chairs
Oklahoma City Bombing April 19, 1995.

This is one of the 168 chairs in the Field of Empty Chairs. The chairs are hand-crafted from glass, bronze, and stone. Each chair’s inscription is the name of a victim of the horrific Alfred P. Murrah Building bombing and the Field of Empty Chairs is adjacent to the bombing site.
Each chair symbolizes the empty dining room table chair of the victim’s family. There are also 19 small chairs in the Field of Empty Chairs representing the children who perished on that ignominious day.
The chair you see in the picture has the incription “Julie Marie Welch”. Julie was an interpreter for the Social Security Administration in the Alfred P. Murrah Building in OKC.
The man responsible for the bombing,Timothy McVeigh, was incensed at what the United States government did in Waco and Ruby Ridge. So on April 19th , 1995 around 9 am he drove a yellow Ryder Rental truck loaded with 4000 pounds of explosives into a parking area outside the government building. This was enough to completely decimate around 1/3 of the building.
Those of you who have read the Turner Diaries won’t be surprised that McVeigh was enthralled by its storyline where the protagonist fearing gun control truck bombs the Washington FBI building.
