The Hanger Lane UFO
Can anybody offer an explanation as to what this UFO could have been?
Back in the 1970’s, I lived near Hanger Lane, West London with my mother and sister. It was a spooky house and we were not happy there not least because my Dad died of a heart attack soon after we moved in. Things would go bump in the night, our dog would growl at something invisible in the corner of the room and in some rooms you would just feel watched. A psychic came in and said that somebody had been killed in the house in the 1940’s and that there was a bad energy remaining. She didn’t attempt to clear it but at least we knew what was going on. It wasn’t a happy thought to live with.
Around the mid seventies I began to hear a strange warbling sound at night especially when it was raining. The nearest that I could describe it was that it was like a modern day car alarm but of course they did not exist then. It tended to move around the sky, sometimes over the house and I would look out fearful of what I might see. I never once saw anything no matter how hard I tried. I called my mother and sister into my room on several occasions but although it was perfectly loud to me they could not hear a thing. I thought that they must be joking but they were perplexed saying that maybe it was the central heating playing up. It was not a noise that any form of central heating could make and I could not understand why only I could hear it.
Meanwhile things inside the house were getting worse. My sister had nightmares that she was being watched by a giant owl and would lie in bed rigid with fear believing that if she moved, it see her and attack her. When I closed my eyes I would glimpse what looked like a huge deformed bird with evil eyes flying at me. Somewhere deep down I knew that this creature was real.
The “UFO”continued on and off for about eighteen months and then disappeared just as suddenly as it had arrived. That is I never actually saw it but whatever it was it did seem to be moving about the sky. Years later I met my husband to be who lived two hundred yards up the road. I asked him if he had ever heard anything like the noise I was describing and he said that yes he had. One evening he was walking from his house to his car and happened to look up to see a cylindrical shape in the sky. The strange warbling sound seemed to be coming from it. It took a lot for him to tell me this as he is a very logical man who is very strong on common sense. He could imagine the Mickey would be taken out of him if he were to talk about strange objects in the night sky.
There could be a sensible reason for what we heard and saw and as to why the few people we spoke to were unaware of any strange sound or objects. Did it have anything to do with the house we lived in but then why did my husband to be, see and hear it 200 yards up the road? It would be nice to be able to put this mystery to bed once and for all so any sensible suggestions would be very welcome indeed.

Interesting and spooky, makes one wonder if we are not really alone within the universe. Sorry to hear about the loss of your father.

it would be interesting to know what it was. It sounds scary for children whatever it was.
