The Homeless and Less Fortunate
The world we live in still has so much to be desired. In this day and age society seems to still forget about those less fortunate.

Many of you know that my full time job is working in a driving school as the office manager. I run across many people in this job in many different situations. Some rich and some very poor.
Last week a letter came to the school and of course I opened it and began to read. Although not addressed to me I read on. It seems that this woman had learned to drive many years ago through our school and had been treated very well by the instructor who taught her. She mentioned one time when out on the road something came up about her being hungry and the instructor immediately had her go through McDonald’s drive thru and got her something to eat. He looked at her and said you should never drive hungry.
She remembered many things about her experience back then and now years later her son is a student. Still having many issues financially, she spoke of being ill and having to live on just social security. Going to the food pantry so that her and her son could eat and living off Roman noodles weekly. She was pleading for the owner to let her sign a promissory note so her son could get his papers to go get his license and pay the balance off a bit at a time.

I found myself sitting there reading this letter with tears streaming down my face. I wanted to pay the balance for her to help her in her bad situation but I do not make that kind of money.
We also have many African refugees who are coming to the United States and need to learn how to drive to be able to support their families and get around. There is a minister in town who pays the down payment for these students but then they have to come up with the balance. So far we have had 5 or 6 come through. Most of them speak very little English and truly have a hard time understanding what is going on. They are allowed to have interpreters in the car when they drive but not in the classroom.
I see them struggle to get through this but somehow they know they have to and get through the program. I have spoken to the minister many times and he told me that if I was to enter these peoples homes it would make me cry. He said they really have nothing and of course they are located in the bad sections of the city. They work hard but still struggle to make ends meat.

Don’t you realize we are spending hundreds of billions of dollars annually on welfare? It’s not like our country is not doing anything. And please don’t compare war expense to welfare expense. Unfortunately there are people and countries out there that want to kill us. They do not understand nice quiet conversations about how to get along, they see that as weakness on our part. They only understand war and power. I wish it were different but it’s not.

It is sad that people have to do without while others are well fed with rich homes and so much they do not need. If those who have more than enough shared with those who don’t, we would all do well.

I enjoyed your write up of such a very sad situation. It really is a shame that people have to live without like that. My heart breaks for all of the people who have to suffer that way.

Too many suffer whereas so many have so much. This world is so unfair. Another great article.
