The Impact of a Complete Smoking Ban

So what is really wrong with being a smoker? In defense of smokers world-wide, here is an argument to silence anti-smokers.

It’s strange how quickly people adopt a cough whilst walking behind a smoker. I’m aware second hand smoke can be deadly, but my advice to you? If you’re as ‘healthy’ as you make yourself out to be, instead of trailing behind smokers whilst faking an asthma attack, why don’t you run ahead and you won’t have to be behind us cancer machines and you can enjoy nice clean air (unless the wind changes direction).

Am I the only person who is shocked, surprised and nearly drawn to tears by the smoking ban that popped up last year, not only are you coughing behind our backs (and doubtlessly not covering your mouths you filthy people) now you’re giving us the finger by waving the no smoking sign high in the air in places like shopping centres (until a concerned security guard asks you to take it down).

Well we are outlawed from all enclosed public places. Perhaps this isn’t such a bad strategy after all, the think-tank men have been racking their brains again at Downing Street and came up with a plan – stopping smokers smoking in public places will stop smokers buy smokes to smoke. Well it hasn’t really worked, although a complete an outright ban on the sale of the old Smokey Joes is denied by Mr Government, they are secretly planning it I’m sure.

If this is the case, then, they haven’t thought of the consequences a complete ban on smoking would bring. For a start think of all the jobs lost at the cigarette factories and the drivers that deliver them. Life expectancy would go up and so would the congestion on the Monday morning commute. And its even worse, what about all the money the government would lose from the taxes that are put on cigarettes? Pretty soon you would find that these taxes start appearing on other products and then all you healthy people will have to start paying even more taxes, do you really want that? It would damage the British economy and we would plummet down the rich countries list. And think about real-life situations, what happens to the train full passengers when the driver collapses? Whilst everyone is panicking where’s the cool-headed smoker who can save the day?  Not there of course. What will ‘ordinary’ people do when they can’t cough behind smokers? Will they simply sprint behind cars choking at the pollutants whilst greatly increasing road fatalities? Yes, of course they would.
