On May 28, 1961, The London Observer, a British newspaper, launches appeal for amnesty, in 1961, a campaign that has been requested release of all persons sent to prison after the peaceful expression of their beliefs.
Call for amnesty was an idea by Peter Benenson, a Catholic lawyer who had made public the issues that were arrested because of their beliefs after learning that a group of students from Portugal were sent to prison because they älibertatiiö gave a toast in honor of a public restaurant. The campaign has inspired the formation of Amnesty International that year.
Amnesty International, a permanent organization on human rights, basing their work on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a document drafted by Eleanor Roosevelt and adopted by the UN General Assembly in December 1954.
Such Declaration of Human Rights, Amnesty International was founded on the principle that people have fundamental rights beyond national boundaries, cultural, religious and ideological.
Organization working for all prisoners to have part of a trial quickly and accurately, to end torture and executions and to get those sent to prison release because of personal beliefs.
From the moment of its founding, Amnesty International has had outstanding success in promoting human rights worldwide, especially due to its impartiality and focus on the person and not political systems. In 1977 the organization received the Nobel Peace Prize.
