The Most Hated Job: Beggar

A piece of news solicits a recall of similar news and a review on the development of beggars. Beggar is the most hated job that should be extinct.

A piece of recent news makes me feel uncomfortable. It is about beggars. I recall having been read some similar pieces of news in the past. They led to my decision on not giving money to beggars anymore. Beggars continue existing and this job becomes more terrible as time passed by. Beggar is the most hated job and many people are suffering from it. Keep on reading and you will know why.

Are beggars all poor?

When I was a child, I used to give a dollar or two to the beggar. Beggar is the poor guy who does not have money to buy himself foods and drinks, clothes, a place to live, does not have a job, alone and always looks shabby. The poor conditions arouse people’s sympathy, including mine.

The sympathy went on until a beggar was interviewed by the broadcasting station one day. He earned money via begging and had a bank account with money enough to start a new life, a normal one. However, he did not want any change. He commented his beggar job satisfactory. He saved more money than many people who had a normal job and worked hard.

I told myself: “Never give money to those beggars who have a healthy body. They should go to work” since then.

Why so many beggars are disabled?

I had no idea how many people made the same decision as mine. But, one thing for sure was the beggars with healthy body have disappeared on the streets gradually. Came next was the disabled beggars. Many of them lost at least one limb. The sight was pitiable. Considered a normal job impossible, but could only earn a living via begging, money was given to the disabled beggars until I read some news.

There was news saying some healthy people disabled themselves to facilitate begging. Some beggars were kidnapped children who were uneducated and made disabled so that they looked pitiable enough to earn great money for the criminal gangs. This explained why there were so many disabled beggars, some of them without two legs, the worst case was without all limbs, could get on the streets with a bowl in front of them to beg.
Giving the disabled beggars money will not improve their situation. More money simply encourages the criminal gangs to kidnap and disable more children to work for them. More parents will lose their children. Those disabled beggars will not have a life of their own, but acted as a pitiable statue forever.

One of the saddest articles I’ve read here on Triond. How horrid that anyone can use children like that.

I must admit to giving money to beggars in the past but I don’t see many around any more. I think it is criminal taking money when they don’t really need it. A very interesting read.

It is just so sickening that people could take a child make them beg and hurt them if they didn’t make the money. These so called humans along with drug dealers, pedophiles and human traffickers, should be sent to an Island far, far away and left there to die.

The question should be if begging is actually a job at all.

I do still on my own discretionary terms give money to pan handlers and beggars. I am in no position to judge their circumstance and if they ask and I have I give UNLESS it is obvious they are running a con or scam (which happens a lot here in So. Cal.)

Many of us are one disaster away from being homeless and without visible means. Let us pray we continue to have a roof over our heads and food in our bellies.

Beggars in the street are problems to the society. Government should deal with this problem. Thanks for the informative article.

I remember seeing this kind of exploitation depicted in Slum Dog Millionaire.

I know of a beggar who lives a very comfortable first-lane life! Clever beggars make a killing and am sure, they dont consider it a hated job!

That’s heartbreaking. :-( I don’t give money to beggars but I give them food especially the kids. Will be more careful now. Thank you for sharing this information.

This situation is just horrible. I do give but I always wonder if the person is making a good living fleecing people. I have heard stories about people in Atlanta making a good living by begging on the streets. It causes people not to help those who are in need.

I see a lot of them here. Begging creates a vicious cycle of dependency and poverty. The more they beg and the more we give, the poorer they get.

There are a lot of syndicates in 3rd world countries who let children beg and get the proceeds. I give with an honest intention to help, but also with due discretion. A very significant post!

I have stopped giving money to beggars. It’s a heart breaking decision but one that I try to be faithful to. Those things you mentioned happens here also. I give food to the elderly beggars…but in my heart I wish I could do more for a lot of them. And those children should be in school, not out in the streets begging.

Very much agree. I used to hear a blind beggar proudly told the man who asked him on the train that he’s got 6 wife and a whole lot more children… Gosh, he’s even richer than me…
