The Most Important Things to Do Before You Die

There are plenty of lists of activities to do before you die, trips to take, and so forth, but in fact there are only a few things you really do need to do before you die.

Writing a will is fairly important but there is something that matters even more: Making a Difference.

Before you die, if you do one thing, and one thing only – Make a Difference.

When we were children we were told about how polluted our world was, how people were staving to death in China, how deforestation was destroying acres of land every second, and how Tigers were running the risk of becoming extinct. We all vowed as kids to make a difference, yet the most difference any of us made actually contributed to one or more of these problems.

You have one chance, one life, before you die, try to do something to leave the world in a better place than you came into. You can do this for future generations, your kids, strangers, karma, or if you believe in reincarnation (what if you came back as a chicken?).

Plant a tree – plant ten, plant one hundred.

Eat less meat, fish, dairy, and eggs

Donate to charity – not just cash, but your TIME!

Encourage birth control, and education, in impoverished areas

Recycle, but also buy less

Give away the things you do not want

Protest any wrongs

Spread awareness about problems, issues of cruelty, or suffering

Fight injustice

Stop belittling other humans (be they poorly dressed, poorly educated, or simply because they are an other race, or gender)

Set a good example

Vote – not according to what people tell you to vote for, but vote for the right thing

Hug your kids – tell them you love them

Adopt a pet – save a life, if you cannot physically adopt a house pet, adopt a zoo animal

Give your money to somebody who really needs it – not necessarily a family member

Volunteer in an impoverished nation, to give people a school, fresh water, or housing

*Authors Note:  Before I die I hope to help change people’s views of pets and animals, to realize they value their lives as much as we value ours.  I hope people will especially understand that spaying or neutering their pets helps stop the endless suffering of unwanted pets (in the USA over 3 million are euthanized every year because more are born than there are homes for).

We are here to teach a lesson and learn a lesson. Check in on an elderly person that lives alone. Make sure they have heat and food.

Good list. But IMO “making a difference” means something different to most people. For example, why not put “teach” on your list? To me, teachers make a difference. Often they literally give people their lives back. Or how about vocational counselors? These are a lot like teachers except they coach you in how to get and keep that job while getting off benefits. And, often, they persuade companies to hire you to begin with. Again, people who give people their lives back. My point is that this is a great list–but it’s your list.

Oh, I pity those animals being euthanized. Good list you have here. People should be grateful and to nature and animals for we get everything we need from them. It’s time for us to return the favor.

If everyone does some of these the world would be better than heaven as we visualize. Hope the message goes across.

very good examples, all these are important things.
I will do the kind things though I may not do the right things, though I may break rules or whatever, I just follow my heart, I do what I think is right though some may think otherwise.

Make a commitment to yourself – whatever the situation is or how bad the circumstances are driving me, i will always be happy.
Simplicity pays the best rewards. Make your life as simple as you can. There is utterly no need to indulge yourself in negative thinking of any kind. Keep yourself away from tension and depression. Believe me, these are never going to help you.
Live a balanced life. Accept happiness and sorrow as a part of life. Balance your personality in all ways.
Use the power of positive thinking for yourself. Always maintain a good perception about yourself. Once you have learnt to believe in yourself, life will be much happier for you.
You are unique in every way. Never compare yourself with others.
Organize your life. Make practical and realistic plans. Without a proper plan in action, an aim in life is merely a dream.

I agree that making a difference before you die is important. I would like to think my existence changed someone or something for the better. I believe we all have a purpose here on earth and making a difference is on top the list.

Since I left my job I’ve been trying to spend every day cultivating relationships, inspiring people, helping people, and otherwise making a positive impact. I have no income coming in, but I just donated $5 to LoveDrop. I may need to money too, but I believe that it will do more good in the lives of the people I’m sending it to.

But also, I’m trying to inspire in others a level of honesty, respect, sincerity, and perseverance which will make the world better for everyone.

Nice thoughts. I use to think a lot about it, but now I tend to do my best, like sharing my knowledge, helping others and spending time with my kids, and live in the present.

I think we’re alive to do a mission and enjoy the experience of it, being conscious.
