The Poverty in Michigan

Michigan, our fair state, is reaching a point of economic decline. This notion, that many people wish was not true and argue against, is a fact, and must be confronted. In my own honest opinion, Michigan is falling into a status of poverty.

The growing effects of poverty on our state are seen by both material wealth and the faces of the people around us. Everyone is hurting these days with the decline of the stock market, the increasing prices of all common goods and in quite a few cases, the lack of monetary gain from a day job. With the economy the way it is, it is hard to be paid enough to provide even the bare basic needs for a modern day living, such as heat, groceries, and electricity.

Poverty’s grip is shown by the people in their faces, in their actions and in their mood. As poverty increases, it is right to assume more people will be doing desperate things for money, such as selling their possessions or even resort to criminal actions to ascertain enough money to make a living. Depression will also increase as poverty does, the financial situation causing these “down” feelings to heighten to more dangerous levels.

Not only are the adults affected by poverty, children are affected because they take in what their parents say and do. They learn from them in these times and their views of the world can be altered because of the financial situation that the parents are forced to deal with. This can cause irreprehensible harm to the child if they take their own existence as one of their parent’s many problems. So really, the mere existence of poverty in Michigan may cause some problems for the children in the near future, financial or emotional-wise.

Reviewing the situation of Michigan, there is very little reason to say that Michigan is not in at least an economic decline. With the loss of jobs, the raising prices of monetary things such as gas and food, and the foreclosures of homes, there is enough pessimistic outlook on the situation of our fair state to say we are in poverty as of now.

This view of mine is shared by quite a few people, while it is a pessimistic outlook on such a beautiful state; it is a reality that I have allowed myself to accept. Michigan, and the rest of the United States, is sinking into a recession that may already be. Poverty is just the beginning, and I believe without a doubt that we are in the middle of it.

Yes poverty is on the rise.It is everywhere. It is the sin of a society that has been on a fast train trying to get THINGS instead of using common sense. We are now paying the price.
