The Third Week Of February
This is random acts of kindness week; as well as the week we honor hospitalized veterans.
The third week of February is a busy week; what with Valentine’s Day. But did you know that February 12th through the 18th is also Random Acts of Kindness Week? That’s right. Furthermore, this is also the week we honor hospitalized veterans. So, I thought I would make a little list of random acts of kindness that can be performed for little or no money.
- Send a thank-you note or valentine to a veterans’ hospital to let our veterans know you appreciate them. There are several hospitals throughout the country-just pick one.
- On garbage day this week, pull the neighbor’s garbage can back from the curb to their garage or yard for them. They will appreciate the saved steps.
- Take a bundt cake to work for your co-workers.
- At the grocery store, offer to put someone else’s cart back in the cart corral for them when you take yours back. They will appreciate it. What do you mean you never put your cart in the cart corral?
- If you live in snow country, shovel the neighbor’s walk along with your own; or clean the snow off of their car when you do yours (for those of us not fortunate enough to have garages).
- Put some bird seed out because it’s also Bird feeding month.
- Have lunch with someone who usually sits alone because it’s also Friendship month.
- Send a valentine to a local nursing home.
- Make a donation to a local animal shelter.
- Send a thank-you note to local law enforcement, EMT personnel, and fire crews.
Who knows, the “trend” may catch on and we may become people who practice random acts of kindness all year long. That statement leads me to ask this question:
Did we really get so busy that we actually had to designate time to make ourselves stop long enough to look past the ends of our own noses? WOW!
