Meerkats are small mammals that are part of the Mongoose family. They live in the Kalahari Desert. They are very sociable animals and live in groups of 20-50 and these groups are called clans, mobs or gangs.
They are burrowing animals that live in large underground networks with multiple entrances. they only leave these during daylight hours.
Meerkats don’t make very good pets. They bite, and the bite can become infected. They stink, and will scent-mark their owner and the house as it is their territory. Being a pack animal, they don’t like to be alone and need to be with other Meerkats.
