The Written Word Should be Qualified
My third article on Britain and my own very strongly worded opinions!
The written word is often misunderstood!
Yesterday I wrote an article entitled,
http://writinghood.com/writing/trond-writers-mind-your-manners/
This in fact was a follow up article to,
http://socyberty.com/history/what-have-you-done-to-my-country/
I feel that out of all the fellow writers and personal friends of mine only two people understood where I am coming from in the articles above, so regrettably I have to write another article using very plain words and keep the message simplistic. In the article ‘What have you done to my country’ I stated my opinion very clearly that there is a large section of British society who were not born here and have no allegiance to my country.
Most of these new British citizens hold a European passport which allows them to work and live in any European country that is part of the European Community. I hope you are with me so far? For people that live in the United States of America or Canada or New Zealand will not be familiar with this practise and I fear that is where some of the confusion is with my article I hope this in some small way covers the no borders issue?
Two years ago I had a holiday in Europe and when I flew back into East Midlands Airport there was no customs check or security personnel to be seen! Why you may ask? this is because European flights are only randomly checked as we are one happy European family! Aren’t we? Umm not really. You can fly into Britain with a known medical problem such as needing a heart bypass you can then pretend to collapse you will be rushed to a National Health System Hospital and have a £25,000 heart bypass for nothing! Zero no payment!
Also there is the benefits system, if your out of work we will pay you to sit at home and watch TV all day! And you are not even required to speak English! I hope this in one small way quantifies my previous issues. The crux of my first article ‘What have you done to my country’ was simple, if there was a war with Britain and lets just say for arguments sake Argentina? How many European passport non English citizens would elect to fight for Britain? After all they benefit from our NHS hospitals and our benefit systems.

Very good article. My sister travels to britian every few months. One of her coworkers there told her people from the U.S. come and they don’t even have to get sick there, They just come to use the hospital system. I think they call it a ’sick vacation’.

In many ways I agree, LB. The UK is indeed the laughing stock of Europe, if not the world. Jobs are scarce and those requiring housing who are nationals of this country (born within UK), have to sit out and wait whilst many immigrants enter and get free benefits, housing and an interpreter to boot.
I am all for a multi-cultural society. This includes religious beliefs and diversity in culture and habits. If anything it enriches our country in many ways. But what annoys me is some of the facts you put. Britain is a “hush, hush” society. We are stiff upper lipped. And as you rightly quote, just how many would defend our country? I doubt many would. When you see the Union jack burned in our capital and poppies burned, it makes you cringe. If such event happened in let’s say the US, they would be shot. If we were to go overseas and do such acts, we would be hung – at best!
It is a very delicate subject. And yes, people require more education and knowledge before commenting on someone else’s country.
It is a modern society. But some people act barbaric. Again I am all for helping out the world. But the UK is the meal ticket in which to come and at the expense of the many people – many multi-cultural- expense.
GB is no longer Great Britain. But Great Benefits.

Powerful article. I will say this…as an American. The difference in opinion and fact can NOT be measured. Your article is well, well composed.

This is a very well written piece and though I have yet to read the articles you eluded to, I certainly intend to. I often feel the same way when “outsiders” feel that they have the information and knowledge about issues here in the United States.

Well written. Thanks for sharing. Cross-cultural issues are a hot topic in this day and age.

I know what you mean. Here illegal can come and get welfare, medical treatment & free housing while paying no taxes for the most part non-working and if challenged they flee to stay free.

DLB…this is a very interesting, comprhensive and compelling article outlining some of the many disadvantages of simply throwing the doors wide open as a member of the European Union…we have the North American Free Trade Agreement which is similar to the European Union, except it is more restrictive and limited in scope, focusing primarily of trade arrangements…I voted that I like this article…thanks and take care…
