Three Things About Ron Paul That are More Frightening Than His Bigotry

Ron Paul, like most of the Republican Candidates, has a questionable history. Newt Gingrich was removed from office over ethics violations and is a habitual cheater. Mitt Romney is a flip flop with no back bone or convictions, had a Swiss bank account to avoid paying taxes and he abused his family pet. But Ron Paul is a racist and homophobe. But that isn’t the worst of it.

This also doesn’t address the other problem of socialization. It doesn’t address the problem of being able to work on a dead line, show up for work on Monday morning or teach kids to solve basic problems.

Homeschooling can be a great tool but forcing it onto our nation will be disasterous.

One of the books I read that my parents hadn’t was the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. Douglass was born into slavery, managed to become free and wrote a book that lead to the end of slavery. His life story is tragic and inspiring. He explains why slavery was wrong, even if you don’t care about black people or the pains in their lives and one of the common themes of this book is that knowledge is power. He over hears a slave owner say that if you teach a slave to read, he won’t be a good slave anymore. He’ll be defiant and demand rights. He says it’ll set the slave free or get him killed trying. This drives Frederick Douglass to learn to read. Knowledge IS power. Who do you want to have that power?

I see a lot of people who support Ron Paul complaining about the public school system. They complain about the math they didn’t learn and how boring science or art was. But you know what? They’re on the internet. They are talking to people all over the world who can read and write in their language. The reason so many nations have had their revolutions lately is because knowledge is power and they are, for the first time, learning that a dictatorship is hell and is preventable. From youtube to twitter and facebook, they have access to information. Do you really want to deny that to your kids?

3. No Corporate Ties.

Ron Paul brags about not taking any corporate money. This sounds good but lets ask ourselves why would any company bribe him into doing their bidding when he will do it for free?

There is nothing in this world than being told by an authority figure to do or stop doing something. It’s frustrating and annoying and we all hate it. Everybody. Ron Paul takes it one step further and says the Federal Government should not impose regulations, or rules, and that the people should just do “the right thing” because it’s the right thing to do. This sounds great until you look at his hypocrisy on issues of abortion and equal rights for minorities. It also falls apart when you realize that he isn’t talking about getting rid of regulations on your life but rather the lives of businesses. The regulations he is against are the safety regulations that make the company you work for pay for lead free paint, asbestos free insulation, health insurance, properly working equipment, fire extinguishers and more. The regulations that he is against also keep your work day down to a manageable length and pay at a wage that helps keep you from living in extreme poverty.

In a Ron Paul America, we won’t have things like holiday pay or the minimum wage. We won’t have safety regulations or OSHA. This means that if you get hurt at work, it’s your fault. If you’re a miner because the only jobs in your town are mining, and you get black lung, well it’s your fault even if the mine company made you work 10 hours a day with no breaks.

Apple is notorious for using Chinese labor to put together those ipads and ipods we all love so much and their employees in China are killing themselves because of the stress of a 16 hour work day.

Is that really the world you want to live in? This one is short because it is so direct. Regulations are not inherently evil. It depends on what you want to regulate. Do you want to regulate businesses or peoples relationships? Ron Paul wants to deregulate the financial industry that caused our economic collapse and, at the same time, shove the federal government into your bedroom and tell you who you can and can not have relationships with.

Really? How is that liberty? How is that LOVE?
