Time to End the Hate
How many people of different cultures look at those of a different culture with disdain or hate and won’t offer them the chance to enrich their life.
Many, many years ago some pompous toad came up with this stupid idea to go to another country gathering together a group of individuals that he would take to the New World to do all the work that he and he and his old cronies didn’t want or were unwilling to do because it was beneath them. This was the practice of slavery and it was what I could only imagine was a cruel life for these young men, women and children that were forced into this life.
About this same time another group of people were also affected by similar over bearing toads as ships came on land in the New World and came face to face with people who lived of the land. This group of people were at first used for their knowledge of the land, how to grow crops in a soil different than that of the home land, how to hunt the different wildlife of the area and any other number of tasks until the day came that their usefulness was not needed and they were then chased from their land which was then claimed to belong to the ship riding toads.
On another front in a different country men, women and children that were different on any number of levels whether by lifestyle, religious belief or cultural differences were gathered together and taken off to a camp where they would try to build some semblance of life behind walls of wire and guards, all at the same time that they feared for their lives.
These three groups of wrongfully treated individuals are just examples of the many other groups who were also unfairly treated for being different from the self imposed group(s) that felt they were better than everyone else. Who, how or why this ever happened we will never know but its lasting effect has impacted all of our lives.
And this impact has resulted in dividing lines between us, invisible lines yes but lines still that are there and that have on some levels created a hatred of each other. My question is how long does this hatred have to continue? Why does it continue? And is it even relevant today?
I see it like this, it is time to stop the hatred and remove the lines between us. Why you ask? I challenge you with Why Not? Do we really need to hold onto a hate that was created because of the stupidity of past ancestors that we didn’t even know?
And in truth aren’t we all essentially the same? Yes I know that we may appear different, we have different cultures, different religious beliefs and different ideas but beneath all of that aren’t we really the same? Do we not all bled if someone cuts us? If someone breaks our heart, don’t most of us cry? If someone makes us angry, don’t most of us get upset and yell? And if someone tells us something funny, don’t most of us laugh?
Our differences, whatever they are, can enrich our lives by sharing things about ourselves that the other may not have experienced. I say we save hate for a nasty vegetable that shows up unannounced on our plate instead of for a person that is different than ourselves that we do not even know.
