Turkish Warships Guard Assistance to Gaza

Turkish warships will escort aid ships to the Gaza Strip’s land, to protect them from Israeli ships, said Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday (09/08/2011) night.

“Turkish warships will be given the task of protecting the Turkish ship carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip,” said Erdogan told Al-Jazeera television station.

“For now, we will no longer allow this ship to be targeted Israeli attacks, as happened in the flotilla Freedom, because Israel is now faced with an appropriate reaction,” he warned.

The UN last week published the report, which condemned Israel’s intervention last year, but said the blockade was itself “illegal.”
