Turkish Warships Guard Assistance to Gaza

Turkish warships will escort aid ships to the Gaza Strip’s land, to protect them from Israeli ships, said Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday (09/08/2011) night.
“Turkish warships will be given the task of protecting the Turkish ship carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip,” said Erdogan told Al-Jazeera television station.
“For now, we will no longer allow this ship to be targeted Israeli attacks, as happened in the flotilla Freedom, because Israel is now faced with an appropriate reaction,” he warned.
Erdogan referred to the clashes May 31 last year, when Israeli commandos personnel up to six ships in the fleet assistance in international waters in an effort to prevent it breaking Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip.

“Turkey will be assertive about their right to monitor territorial waters in the eastern Mediterranean,” added Erdogan.
Ankara has also done some action to prevent Israel from unilaterally exploit natural resources in the region, he said.
The UN last week published the report, which condemned Israel’s intervention last year, but said the blockade was itself “illegal.”
Ankara expel the Israeli ambassador and froze all military relations, including trade-related contracts with defense, as retaliation for Israel’s refusal to ask Sorry for the attack.
