Uk: Bringing Drugs Just for Friends? No Prison

UK citizens accused of buying drugs only for themselves and their friends will be able to avoid prison sentences. According to new guidelines published by state courts last week. The British Guardian reported that for the first time judges were recommended that if the use of cannabis was for medical purposes they should consider that for the penalties.

Telegraph says that according to the recommendations that will go into effect next month, traders that will be caught with six pounds of marijuana, may also escape imprisonment. The same hold for dealers caught hold 20 ecstasy pills, or five grams of cocaine or heroin. They will probably be judged for only community service sentences.

Defendants provided similar amounts only for friends, with no-profit expectation, can also avoid jail.

The guidelines were formulated by “The Board of jurisdiction” – a body of British Justice Ministry aims to enhance public confidence in the justice system, research into the field and promote a “fair, clear and consistent access to the judging process.”

According to the recommendations, the stringent penalties for drug dealers, including minors drug sellers,
Would remain in place and even be ramped.
 
Recommendations classified the drug amounts to four general categories, and the defendants according to the “role” they “played”in the offense, “leading role”, which includes buying and selling in commercial scale, a significant role or lesser role which will be punished less stringently.
