UK Public Demands Traditional Values

A survey in the UK recently has highlighted the need to return to more traditional and family orientated values. Good news we think…

Well in the UK it seems that people are getting fed up with computer games, fast food and television. Plus it appears the public there are tired of ill manners and lack of discipline.

According to a survey by the Chelsea Building Society, nine out of ten people in the UK wanted to see a return to more traditional values our ancestors enjoyed and preached.Public opinion appears to suggest that the UK has changed for the worse over the past 20 years and 77% of the people surveyed believed that lack of discipline in schools was a major part of the problem. 74% suggested that family unit breakdowns was the main fault whilst 70% blamed personal greed as a major contributor to the social deterioration.Even the younger generation, aged between 18 and 24 stated that society had took a nose dive in general.Ironically it was this very age group who called for the turning back of the clock and more traditional values such as less television and called for the return of more family trips and games.

Fast Food Out

In the survey the people called for more traditional family meals around the dining table and less trips to the fast food chains. It was stated that more manners was required by people with nine out of ten people requesting more “thank yous” and demanded a more polite approach from kids. Giving up seats on buses to older people was also high on the score list in the survey.Traditional values such as family meals, helping neighbours and better and safe places for children to play out instead of being stuck in front of computers was also mentioned in the survey. Also when someone serves you, a polite smile wouldn’t go amiss!Seems like good news all round! The hope is that all the above is took up by all.

I tend to agree with all you say here! I’ve always worked with joe public in various roles over the years, and the fact that I am respectful, polite and genuinely want to help people has always stood me in good stead! As a fellow Leicester person, I find that people here and either very friendly or bloody ignorant with little middle ground!!

I take this with a pinch of salt. If 9 out of 10 people want more thankyou\’s then 1 in 10 of us is sufficient to spark a demand for \”traditional values\” ?? 7 or 8 out of 10 bemoan the current state of public manners? Nah, this doesn\’t stack up. People are talking the talk but not walking the walk. I suspect very \”weak science\” here!
