Use of Cell Phones While Driving
What can happen while driving and using your cell phone?
“Hang up and drive, you bleep!” is what many people say when they are talking on their cell phone while driving. Don’t get it huh? Well picture this, your mom or dad, well mostly moms, but anyways is driving and talking on the cell phone. I know this has probably happened at least twice to you, but the worst part of all is that she has past over five stop signs and has ran over two or three squirrels. Today I’m going to try to prevent that. I will be talking about how cell phone use while driving has affected people over time, the damage a cell phone can cause while driving, and a few possible ways to prevent accidents. It’s not that cell phones are bad, it’s that there dangerous while driving.
A recent Harvard study says that fatalities are caused by drivers using cell phones has more than doubled since 2,000. The center estimates a rate of 2,600 deaths per year, up from 1,000 in just 2 years ago. More than 20 states are considering laws to restrict the use of cell phones while driving. Why? Because when you are driving while using your cell phone you are 40% attention at the road, and when you’re not using your cell you’re now paying 60% attention at the road. It’s better to stop somewhere rather than having a brutal accident. Not all the time you might have an accident. There is a 1 in a 4 million chance for this to happen. This doesn’t mean you should keep doing this, it means you should watch
By now you may think I’m joking, but drivers using cell phones are four times as likely to get into crashes with serious injuries. What I am trying to say is that the damage a cell phone can cause while driving is serious. Many people have died due to cell phone use while driving. For example, the last 4 weeks, on October 20, Adam J. Teumer, age 22, of Cornell NY, died after he flipped his vehicle while talking on his cell phone and his car landed in water about a quarter-mile from where a crash had also happened in 1996. The damage an accident like this could cause can lead to severe injuries or even death. The thing is that people should have a greater sense of responsibility while driving.
Okay if your mom is talking on the cell phone while driving. Then here are a couple of things you can tell her to prevent that. One good thing is to stop at a store or something to talk. Another way is to be available to receive a call every one hour when you are in a resting place or store. One of the greatest ways to do is to buy an earpiece to connect it to your cell phone, so you have both hands on the steering wheel. There is many other good ways, but the point is be smart.
Well, it looks like I just finished talking to you about how cell phone use has affected people over time, the damage a cell phone can cause while driving, and a few ways to prevent accidents. All I’m trying to say is your life is better than a cell phone. So, next time tell your mom to hang and drive.
