We must remember that mineral resource are limited and cannot last forever. We must use them carefully. We should try to find alternative sources of energy from sources like sun, wind and water, which are available forever. Natural resources are nature’s gift. So it is our duty to use them with great care.

The largest reserves of petroleum in the world are found in the countries of the Middle East like Saudi Arabia and Iraq. They are the largest suppliers of petroleum to the world.

The main products that we get from crude oil are petrol, kerosene, diesel and cooking gas.

It is a very useful mineral fuel. Without petroleum modern life is not possible. Petrol and diesel is used for driving motar vehicles, Kerosene and gas for cooking.

Petroleum is used mainly as a fuel, for lubricants and as paraffin wax to make candles, shoe polish, etc.

It is also called Rock oil. Mineral oil is called liquid gold.

Petroleum is farmed when animals that live in the water die and collect on the ocean floor. This pile keeps getting thicker. Gradually it changes into petroleum over millions of years due to the heat of the earth.

Wells are drilled into the ground to reach the oil. An area with a number of oil wells is called on oil field. Assam, Gujarat and a place near Mumbai are three major oil fields in India. Bombay high is one of the biggest oil field in the country.

The oil we get from the ground is crude. Crude oil is refined at refineries in Mumbai, vishakapatnam, Cochin, Chennai, Mathura.
