Voter Apathy
Local government.
“Your vote is your voice, use it!’ this quote was used in the Rock The Vote association in 2008 encourageing young adults ages 18-25 to vote in the election. A major problem in the U.S. is that many people don’t participate in the elections held to decide public offices. With this problem growing others wonder why it becoming a harder for the government to work.
There are many reasons why people do not participate in elections. A major one is that people feel that one vote doesn’t count. That their vote will not change or matter to the election. Another reason is that some people are not educated in one way or another about the election. Like they don’t know the issues so they didn’t know who support when it comes down to the political debuts or actually voting. This leads them so confused they just don’t vote.
This effects our government in many ways. Our government is “for the people, and by the people”. With this our government runs on the opinions and wills of the public. Without their opinions it’s harder for the representatives to know exactly what needs to happen to make the country run better.
How can we improve voter participation? We could make more sources that would inform the people about the issues and the positions of the people that are running for office. Also we could make more ways that are more convenient for people to actually vote. Such as instead of having to go to a designated area to vote but doing it electronically at their own computers. This would allow more people to quickly and easily access the voting ballots.
Though getting people to vote in the U.S. is a major problem we can still make it better. With all the different attempts there are ways to increase the voter outcome. We just need more people to help create the ways of spreading the information. As well as maybe changing the way we vote. But we need help to make the changes. Will you help?
