Voting is Not a Privilege, It’s a Duty
The major non news of today was the date set for the general elections to be held in Britain on May the 6th. If you haven’t yet registered to vote, you should do so before April 20th. And be aware that voting is a duty, not just a privilege.
For Britain, a month of boredom is coming up. With the official start of the election campaigns today, papers, radio stations, and TV channels will be awash with the lies of party leaders and local non entities vying for a seat on the gravy train in Westminster.
The spin doctors will be heating up their kitchens even more, producing the well known broth of two half truths combined with an outright lie to trap the voters. Beauticians and photographers will be working overtime to produce pictures of everybody without showing their Pinocchio noses.
With the expenses scandal still unresolved and MPs stubbornly set to retain their overpay (if they would be paid for the work they do, they would earn about 5,000 pounds a year including travel and other expenses) people might feel inclined not to vote, which would suit these fine gentlemen and ladies out for killing just fine. Contrariwise to their hopes, you should go to vote and against any current MP at that.
If you live in a constituency where the fraudster that sat in on Westminster during the last five years didn’t read the writing on the wall and runs again to fill his pockets, it is your duty to go and vote against them. Whatever the choice (or almost), just don’t let a single criminal currently strutting the halls of parliament return to the scene of his crimes. That is the message for this vote. If you don’t go and vote, you are becoming an accessory in crime.
Some constituencies have even more to answer for than others if they fail to oust their current MPs. These are the constituencies where members of the government or the shadow government have their seats. If you go for the criminals, go for their heads, not for the small fry. It is enough that the police always go for the small fish and let the high profile bosses run free.
If you haven’t yet registered to vote and apart from the question why on earth you haven’t done so yet you may do so at aboutmyvote. Remember, voting is not only your privilege, it is your duty. Even more so if your constituency offers you the possibility to vote in an independent or someone from the newly formed Trust Party. The Trust Party is at least going in the right direction as to expenses, though they still have to learn a lot on how it really ought to be done. But a bit in the right direction is better than blank denial by the major parties, isn’t it?
And yes, I am fully aware that this article is not politically correct. Specifically for this election, the bureau for political correctness has stated that the words fraudster, thief, and criminal may not be used anymore and have to be replaced by the word politician. There are further words that went on to the black list: War criminal has to be former Prime Minister; Mafia, Camorra, and organized crime have to be called political party; and embezzlement, defrauding, lying, abuse of confidence, and violation of trust are to be called political speeches.
