Wake Up America

A personal view point on the current state of the financial picture in America.

It never ceases to amaze me the multitude of ways that we squander taxpayer dollars. We have pumped billions and billions of dollars into corrupt Wall Street firms, dishonest banking institutions and a failing auto industry. Yet, that same money is somehow never available for a good cause. Let’s look at a few better ways the money could have been spent.

  1. Education: More money for struggling school districts to buy books, computers, implement after school programs and make necessary repairs. Provide more incentives for kids to stay in school, stay off drugs and stay out of gangs. Perhaps, even expand or implement mandatory sex education classes (I know someone will object to that being taught in school).
  2. Social Security: The money that was spent bailing out the fat cats probably would have fixed the problems with Social Security. If nothing else it would at least lighten the load on those that a long time to go before they retire.
  3. Law Enforcement: Money could have been used to hire and train more officers as well as help departments that needed critical equipment. Increased police presence in high crime areas would help to decrease the number of crimes committed.
  4. Health Care: With the kind of money that was thrown away. We all could have had health insurance.

It seems that we will help people that have robbed others blind and of course those in other countries but we will not lift a finger to help Americans. Americans who get up everyday and go to work hoping that the money that’s going into their 401K will be there when they retire. Only, to find out that their 401K’s were used to bank roll a Ponzi Scheme and now they have nothing.

How about the men and women who for years and for some decades have gotten up and gone to work at one of the big three. Then one day out of the blue they start getting handed their termination notices due to poor management they are now unemployed. Their once stable job that provided security for them and their families, is now going under due in part to union greed and poor management.

We are rapidly approaching 10% unemployment and the year’s not over. What will next bring? I can only guess more of the same, high gas prices, unemployment and foreclosures. And of course a new hurricane season. As much as I hate to say it there will be another Katrina sometime in the near future and I can only hope that the government does not twiddle their thumbs for to long. There will be the same problems as before because we seem to refuse to learn from our past. Law Enforcement will again be out manned and out gunned. We will sit and complain and talk about how sad the situation is but do very little to help.

Much like anyone else I do not have all the answers, all I know is that American is going to hell in a hand basket and nobody seems to care at all. We have men and women fighting and dying everyday in foreign lands. And yet we complain about every little thing. WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!
