War: A Family’s Point of View
The unfortunate side effects not always apparent when thinking about the war.

I h: ave been listening to a song titled “Somebody’s Son” quite a bit of late and it has begun my thinking process on our many wars around the world and the major side effects not always apparent to the average citizen.
The song had me start thinking about all those young men that never come back, that never will get to see their young son or daughter, that will never see their wives or there parents, and those who will leave behind entire small towns. I can’t imagine the feeling of growing up know my dad was killed in a (normally) senseless war and I never had the chance of meeting him, nor will I ever have that chance again. Many of the men killed there belonged to clubs or were coaches for their children’s sports teams. I won’t ever begin to fathom the burden placed on the wives of these soldiers who have passed away and must carry on with their lives caring for their children. There children constantly asking innocent questions like “when is daddy coming back?” or “where is daddy right now?” would be heartbreaking and a will power killer. But the President and his war room buddies will never see or know of this hurt, the senseless dictators around the world will never know or have to feel such pain, and the heroes at home must trudge along with everyday live as if nothing happened. These poor people back home from the wives as mentioned before, and the parents who will have outlived their sons and daughters who have been killed. That would be a heart breaking feeling knowing your child won’t ever be just a call away from you in the event of an emergency and knowing they are never there for the loving support you will need. It would be a feeling only created by the devil himself that one would feel knowing your son or daughter is never coming home to sleep again, seeing as how many of these young people are still well within the age range of living at home.
As you may be able to tell I am quite opposed to many of the wars we have fought to date. While I fully support our troops and the young men and women fighting for yours and my freedom I cannot comprehend while we are still fighting some of the battles with which we are currently involved. I will start with Iraq. We started the Iraq war because of a man by the name of Suddam Hussien. Hussien after all was put into power by the American government because the previous leader did not comply with American policies thus leading to President Bush “knowing” they had weapons of mass distruction, he more than likely gave him the plans. 9/11 was an extremely tragic event in American history but we have had forces there ever since and have made very little progress dispite great loses of troops. It is time to swallow our pride and shrink our egos. The world knows America is a super power so lets save some troops while we are at it. The America people and the parents, mothers, husbands, and children of these troops will more than appreciate it, they will keep the one they love around to enjoy life to its fullest. In the end does anybody really “win” in a war?
