War on Drugs: A Joke?
Is the war on drugs a joke?
For a long time know everyone has known that the idea of a war on drugs is a joke. It is a logical fallacy. In Mexico, Brazil, Afghanistan, and Columbia to name a few. The rich west has been involved in attempting to repress drug production with oppression and violence.
If this tactic could work then I rather suppose that it might be worth while. I mean, it’s pretty immoral to crack down hard on the suppliers, when its your own people who are demanding the drugs. But then, democracy wise, it makes a lot of sense to avoid loosing jobs by arresting your own people, and just bomb the fields of foreigners.
It’s worse than that though, the supply side crack down can simply never work. It simply goes against basic economic logic. If you reduce supply then there will be an excess of demand. An excess of demand will lead to an increase in price. This will lead to more sellers entering the market, or current ones increasing supply. The reality is that if you destroy 90% of all drug production then the price of drugs would go up by so much that you could never hold back the rush of people wanting to join in the production of illegal drugs!
Lets give this up. Either, its time to accept that drugs form part of our society , thus legalise/tolerate them. Or its time to admit that it’s the people in our society demand drugs, thus they are the people we must tackle, no matter how hard this is.
