We Live In A Polluted World

Will the world ever become cleaner, our air, oceans and streams less polluted? Will man with his past great accomplishments find a way to reverse what it has exhausted into our ecosystem?

To say the least, we, humans are at an impasse, a quagmire. No nation, not one leader, not even one group of expert scientists in the field has a finite answer, direction or even a workable proposal to solve our global problem…Pollution. Besides world hunger, it affects us all. It also affects our climate over time and the majority of our top scientists believe it has already been the cause of some of our fluky weather we have been experiencing lately, which in turn can also affect plant growth… and consequently a direct impact on human survival on this planet. Pollution has reached such a level that many fish which have been the prime source of omega 3 essential oil( sometimes referred to as one of the keys to human sustenance) is becoming more and more contaminated with heavy metals and pcb’s. Some of the most contaminated fish in our oceans are virtually banned from consumption in certain groups, such as pregnant woman for reasons of possible birth defects on the unborn fetus.

The Air We Breath

All of us are affected in one way or another, not only from the food we eat, but in the air we breath in certain areas of the country, where there is heavy industry. As of late the majority of our world leaders, both east and west, democracies and dictatorships have seemed to align with one purpose, in seemingly one general direction in a joint effort to find a solution to this problem. This global problem has for many years been the topic of international discussion, but only recently has been dealt with as a serious problem needing as immediate a solution as possible. Any implemented program to even begin the slightest reversal to this global pollution problem will most likely impact industry growth to some negative degree, unless the nations of the world join together in one common effort. There are certainly many efforts underway to lessen the pollution from our automobiles, oil and coal fired electric producing plants and also from our manufacturing plants in recent years, but this only skims the surface.

Globally, many leaders of concerned nations have invoked the guidance and wisdom of the greatest minds of today’s geological sciences. Some of our most intelligent minds offer personal opinions gained over many years in their field of expertise, but not one can conclusively find the way for the world to go that will solve this problem. We talk about the consequences of our world in a warming phase, probably due to the greenhouse effect, which is being blamed on the present pollution levels, while others say this is a normal phase in the earth’s evolution of its ecosystem. There are many who believe that if we switch totally to Renewable Energy, such as solar, wind, geothermal, etc., this will reverse our air, sea and land contaminants. Someday, we all hope that this could make it happen, but with some political resistance, mainly in wind farm energy deployment, this may not happen in our lifetime.

You have great articles. I think about the kind of world we live in all of the time and our health.

A genuinely enlightening article, I believe that we need to care very much about the planet we live on.

Thank you Lucy for your encouraging comments. It is unfortunate that big business is only out for profit and how it affects the world is of little concern.
