What Does Freedom Mean to Me

The word ‘freedom’ is a very interesting word, because it is the only word, which varies in meaning from person to person. It means different to different people. For example, gossiping in the mobile for unlimited minutes , or walking alone in the night on the street without the restraints of anyone, or even to express one’s own thoughts freely etc could be freedom to some people. But to me, the true freedom is to serve my own nation without the any  restrictions. After 63 years of freedom, my country is still facing some burning problems, like unemployment, unchecked growth of population, illiteracy, poverty and health hazards are afflicting the people of the country. To relieve our society from this disgracing and distressing state, I want to do something to lessen the sufferings of the common people. I can hold night schools to teach the illiterate adults as well as the poor children. I, with my college friends, can go to the slums and other backward villages and point out why there are epidemics in those areas. As the population of India is growing rapidly, so we can go to villages and teach the villagers the aspects of family-planning. In the emergency situations, like flood or famine, we can take an active part in bringing relief to the sufferers. Next may be mentioned another great service – that of organising voluntary blood-banks and afforestation schemes. In doing all these things, we often had to take permission of the Government as well as our parents. Sometimes they agrees, but sometimes they restrains. The day, when I will be free to do these services without any restrictions, that day will be the actual Independent day to me.
