What Matters? Peace
What matters is world peace. Imagine a world with no wars and peace!
In a world that is plagued with problems such as greed, violence, hatred, extortion, drugs, poverty, climate change and religious intolerance, one exceeds them all – war. What matters is that we live in a world of conflict and divergence of one’s ideas. What we must aim for is world peace.
“An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind,” and “There are many causes that I am prepared to die for but no causes that I am prepared to kill for”, are the renowned words of the wise pacifist, Mahatma Karamchand Gandhi. His idea of peace and non-violence are of great significance to every person, country, state, city and person living in this world.
Hostility and wars such as the dreaded World War Two which had a staggering death toll of forty-eight million two-hundred and thirty one thousand seven hundred (military and civilian personnel) in a space of just six years. This war led nowhere, achieved nothing and resulted in nothing. Conflict is happening as I speak, for example, the war on Iraq. The battle between Muslim extremists and American troops has left thousands dead, causing loved one’s sorrow. Despite the ongoing demands for American troop withdrawals, George W. Bush still stands his ground about continuing the war.
To achieve world peace, all wars as well as fights must end and all the nations of the world must unite. People ought to attend peace organisations such as “Greenpeace”, “Each one teach one.” Dr. Frank Laubach – spread the word of peace, donate money to charities, join hands with others and follow Ghandi’s wise words. Living in a world of peace would be like living in the Garden of Eden, it will be a paradise and it will be what the Gods have long wished for.
“I pray for all of us, oppressor and friend, that together we succeed in building a better world through human understanding and love, and that in doing so we may reduce the pain and suffering of all sentient beings”. Tenzin Gyatso
