What Needs to be Done to Stop Yobs and Other Criminals

by authorcrazy in Issues, November 3, 2007

With our prisons on overload and a tidal wave of criminal activity going on, including yobs running wild, it is not time to do something about it? I believe that it is and I have some suggestions you might like to consider or comment on in this article.

Is it surprising our Police Force is loosing out on the fight against crime in Jersey when fear of consequences is missing today, both with criminals and our own children. There is no discipline, rules are broken again and again, nothing learned except the risk is worth it because in the majority of instances people either get away with a crime (They win) or they get caught and not punished (They win again because they get another chance to try again and not get caught and therefore win).

Parents have had the right to smack their children when they are naughty taken away, and as far as I an concerned it is unreasonable to expect parents to take the blame for badly behaved children under these circumstances.

Social services will take a child away from a parent if they smack the child and try to sort them out; children are often heard to threaten their parents with the child protection laws/services, and children openly misbehave in public let alone at home because of silly laws and the manzy pansy Dr Spock brigade.

When it comes to criminals who have been convicted in court being let off with the most ludicrously sentences, after the Police have done their job and dealt with a ridiculous amount of paperwork to get the case to court in the first place (at horrendous cost to the public purse), all because of the crazy system in place where we have a psychologists reports on these criminals, bringing up every conceivable or sometimes inconceivable excuses as to why they have committed the crime in question, as well as in numerous cases a whole epilogue of previous crimes committed and convicted for.

Then a real wow is me history of the criminals life experiences, as well as the all the unfortunate present circumstances and hardships of this poor hard done by criminal are all handed into the judge for consideration before sentence is passed. Then in too many cases the Judge comes back and gives them a soft none Prison sentence, irrespective of the fact that it is probably this criminals zillionth crime, which of course put this criminal back out on the streets to continue in many cases terrorizing decent law abiding people.

It is overdue that as a society we get this situation sorted out, there are a lot of decent people out there, who have had just as bad and in some cases a much harder life, with just as bad or worse life experiences than these criminals, who haven’t used them as an excuse to committee crimes against others and behave badly, even though we all see that crime obviously does pay these days, because the law is such an arse.

The solution is to give parents the power to reprimand their children in a sensible manor a good slipper across the backside at the right age will prevent a lot of future yob problems. Let the Police do their job without all the ludicrous paperwork that takes up too much time and prevents them from doing their job on the streets where they are needed.

Judges need to start giving out real sentences for habitual criminals irrespective of their hard luck stories, think about how the victims rather than the criminals have or are suffering. I feel that Judges are put under far too much pressure to dish out soft sentences due to our overcrowded prisons.

I say bring back the birch for yobs would be a good start, there would be a lot less repeat offenders if this was done! Plus of course it would result in less of a burden on our prisons. Oh, and maybe we should consider bringing back hanging for cold blooded murderers (not the crime of passion ones) when it is a 100% safe conviction, why should the public purse pay to keep these monsters, of course this would free up space in all the prisons.

    Good job! Well-stated.

You have outlined some excellent preventative medicine for society. This dilemma is not restricted to one country. It is widespread.

    Umm….what’s a yob?

A yob or hoody is a British name for nasty teenagers who’s behaviour is disgusting!
