What Pollution Is Doing To Our World

The famous Yellow river, which runs through China, has now turned red due to mass pollution. Two heat providing companies spilled large amounts of dyed water into the river causing a half mile section of the river to turn red. Officials at the heating plant say the water was dyed red in the plant because they wanted to make sure nobody used it for themselves.

Plant workers say the spill was from a 400 gallon container that needed to be repaired and the dyed water was released into the rive, but is not toxic. The river flows across northern China and provides drinking water for millions of people.

This pollution was the latest in a series of incidents in major Chinese rivers over the last year. Chinese news sources say that “Financial punishment will not solve the problem. The company who caused the pollution should be kicked out of the business.” Since a November pollution spill in 2005, protecting the environment has been a major part of Chinese leadership after chemicals were accidentally leaked into the Songhua River and flowed into Russia.

China’s major canals, rivers and other waterways are always badly polluted and millions of people live without adequate drinking water. The countries farmers and environmentalists are protesting against the uncontrolled dumping of chemicals and liquids into China’s waterways.
