There
are 7.1million registered firearms in Canada, 172 gun related

homicides in Canada
in 2004, 112 committed with handguns, 71 gang-

related homicides
in Canada
in 2004, 70.4 percent of gang-related

homicides
committed with a gun, and even 20.7 percent of non-gang

related homicides
committed with a gun. In this country the place where

most guns are
used is in gangs. 50/70 gang murders occurred last year

and 32/50 of
those murders were committed with a handgun. There were

9974 gun related
homicide in 2002-close to 125 deaths per million people

annually. Gun
violence in Canada, especially
Toronto, has
been growing.

A $50 million Gun
Violence and Gangs Prevention Fund would be used to

support reduction
in gun violence and gang activity through diversionary

and skills
development programs. Here is a quote by Zari Kazandjian, “On

September 13,
2006, a 25 year old man walk up to Dawson
College and

fired his
semi-automatic weapon onto a crowd of student. Before the

police gained
control over the situation, he managed to kill an 18 year old

girl and injure
many others whose ages ranged from 17 to 48. Many still

remain in
critical condition at hospital. His weapons were legal and

registered. His
weapons were cosigned by two

other
individuals. The Canadian Government wants to get rid of the

legislation that
put into motion a gun registry claiming it is useless and

expensive. This
cannot happen. The registry must stay active but become

more sever.
Registration fees should be around the 500$ mark. No sale of

semi-automatic
weapons should be permitted. All those who co-sign in

the purchases of
a gun that is used in a murder or crime by the registered

owner of the gun
should face sever penalties or become accessories to

murder.” This
proves that the gun violence in Canada
is legal, they are

basically saying it’s ok to kill people.  Why is it ok? It’s not ok we shouldn’t

just sit around and let people get killed
legally.
John Dixon, president of B.C

Civil
Liberties said, “The registry is an astonishing nadir of dysfunction. To

squander
the respect for law that people have is the worse kind of vandalism.”

And
he is truly right. It is a great kind of vandalism. The worst type of vandalism.
I

have
given it much thought and this problem may never be solved, because the

presidents
or prime minister won’t be taking the guns out of the country since

they
need it, and they won’t make it legal because even if they do people will still

have
access to them. The prime minister should make it legal to have any type of

gun
in your house unless you are a police officer or you have special permission

other
than that I don’t think they should be aloud. I also don’t think they will do

this,
because they are also getting money off the people who buy the guns and

they
will not stop since it is all business. So I don’t think this problem will ever
be

solved.
