Wind Turbines: Friend or Foe?
The advantages of wind turbines as compared to coal or nuclear power generating sources.

Standing tall and majestic, watching over God’s green earth like the god of all scarecrows, sucking up the wind as it generates its 1.5kw of electricity just so we won’t be left out in the dark and cold. This mammoth turbine will be the lifeline to many homes for years to come, leaving an absolute zero carbon imprint and without leaving behind anything that would someday have to be buried deep in a mountain for thousands of years.
The only meltdown this giant would produce could be taken care of with a fire hose and an unpleasant afternoon. There would be no National Guard, no radiation suits and no mass evacuation of thousands of square miles. There would be no hazardous material agents and no quarantine signs to post. There would be no long term affects or inevitable birth defects for generations to come, just one small fire and maybe a few ruined crops at best.
Using the wind to make electricity is by far a new technology, but it has highly developed into a clean and popular source of creating energy for our future, without the smog or the worries of a nuclear meltdown. This technology has gained in popularity over the past three or so decades, and seems to be gaining momentum as the years go on. New technologies might come along, but I believe we might be seeing these wind turbines spread across the land permanently.
The first impression some people get from these massive turbines is that they are ugly. So I ask them if they would rather have this sitting in their back yard:
Another first impression is that the turbines look scary to them. Well, maybe those people would like to live near one of these:

Maybe that would set their minds at ease when they lay down to go to sleep at night. Or maybe I’m just too judgmental of other people when it comes to the environment. I just know that the idea of my daughter getting black lung or seeing my future grandchild be born with an extra eyeball; or maybe even two arms on the same side o their torso scares the hell out of me.
Maybe it’s one of those, (out of site, out of mind) mentalities that everybody was taught at an early age, or, (what you don’t know, won’t hurt you) attitudes. Whatever it is, get over it and get used to seeing it, because turbines and wind farms are going to be here for years to come, improving our way of life!
