Aspects on the Amish Life
The aspects of Amish life I find appealing are their simplicity way of life, their never-ending
fashion sense, their primitive technology, the closeness of the community, no hatred and
devotion to their religion. I envy their way of life because there is no stress, for example
when Rachel’s father woke up Book to milk the cows, this proves that their daily chores are the
only stress put on them, but I could never wake up very early to do chores. Their attire never
changes, it’s the same solid plain colours. I would not find it difficult to put on clothes without
any buttons or zippers, I can adjust to that but I cannot adjust to plain dark colours especially
with no type of design. The Amish society are very strict about the type of technology that is to
be used.
As shown in the movie Witness they ride on Buggy’s and their farm equipment is
powered by humans, animals or nature. Furthermore, there is a strong bond in
the Amish community, for example, when Samuel rang the large bell to contact his neighbors for
help. Another example illustrating on how the community is so close is the barn raising. It is a
one or two-day event during which a community comes together to assemble a barn for one of its
neighbors. The most interesting aspect about the Amish is there is no hatred. For example,
Samuel’s grandfather explained to his grandson why guns or hatred should not be used against
another human being. The Amish people are very religious, their entire life is solely based on
religion, such as: their clothing, their education, and much more..
Also, their medical system, I
would never accept. Although the Amish people are relatively healthy, with their chores that last
all day long, they do not believe in modern science which leads to some genetic disorders, such
as dwarfism and twinning. In conclusion, the Amish life is a very simplistic and old fashion.
