You are What You Wear

People are treated and stereotyped according to how they look and what they wear on the outside.

We have so many people today dressing like they could care less about how they look. Parents let their children dress in and every kind of way. There used to be a time where women dressed like women and men dressed like men. Where is the integrity? Where are the morals?  Audrey Hepburn is a great role model to show how young ladies should dress and carry themselves. And believe it or not, Cary Grant is a great role model to show how men should dress and carry themselves. So many modern day fashion designers have twisted the meaning of “fashion”. According to thinkexist.com, Coco Chanel quoted “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” In other words, fashion is a lifestyle, it’s the way you see your life. Fashion is living in the moment. Fashion has attitude. It has personality. As a result, certain clothes make you feel a certain way. If someone who lived in the streets changed their wardrobe into a more business style then, that person would feel like they need to be more business. If someone wanted to go to church then, they would try to dress like they were going to church.”Clothes make the man” Why, because people want to fit in.

They are too scared to go back to how it used to be. People are too afraid of what friends may think if they dressed more classy. And believe it or not, fashion designers are doing the same thing. Fashion designers are looking at what the people are interested in. Fashion designers see that women want to show more skin. So, designers give what the women want! More dresses with nothing to hide! Women wonder why they are treated un-lady-like. It’s simply because they dress like it. Men wonder why women only want them for how they look. It’s because they’re trying to show off want they got.  Ladies, cover up. Show men that they can’t see any and everything. Men vice versus. Our society is basically based on “peer pressure”. People are just too scared to be different. I mean truly different. Peer pressure has transformed fashion into everything! Fashion is in sex, fashion is in drugs, fashion is in alcohol, fashion is in speech. Fashion used to be a top priority in society. Instead, fashion is “what people are wearing now”. Fashion used to be an individual thing. People knew your style. People could point out your taste. People could feel who you were. Instead, fashion is a common thing. Everbody wants to be like the Johnsons. No one wants to be a trendsetter. No one wants to take a stand and be different. No one wants to be the individual. Everyone just wants to be in “the group”. Don’t be a member of “the group”. Be the individual. Go out and do your thing. Dress to impress yourself. Don’t dress to impress others. Show people that fashion is an individual journey. Fashion is your life. Fashion is your walk and your talk. Fashion is you.
