10 Tips for Learning Languages in a Fun Way
Are you struggling with homework exercises and boring classes? It’s time to start enjoying the process of learning a language. Find out even more ways how to practice the language without too much effort.
6. Talk to people. If you have friends that know the language, speak with them occasionally in the new language, but not all the time, if you are not so good at it yet. If you get too much of it, you will not want to do it anymore. If you have no friends, find them on-line – italki, LiveMocha, Busuu, and more, – those communities offer free and premium services, networking possibilities, language exchange, resources, etc. In most cities there are also active language exchange communities.
7. Travel. The best place to learn the language is where the natives live. Get to know the culture, traditions, cuisine, and what it is like to speak the language every day. Even if people speak English, ask to talk with you in their native languages. You will be admired and make loads of new friends. If you think you have no money for that, learn how to travel for nearly nothing.
8. Use new software. I especially liked Rosetta Stone that I took from the local library. It is nothing much more than repeating and typing phrases, and performing various tests after. However, the leaning process absorbs you so much, that you can spend the whole night doing new exercises without being able to stop.
9. Listen to phrases in your mp3 player. Record the phrases yourself or from your learning software. This is similar to singing, but might be better when you are just a beginner and need to learn the basic phrases. When you are stuck in traffic, spend your time usefully.
10. Reward yourself for the progress. As you are probably not getting grades, you have to motivate yourself. Agree with your language exchange partner to offer each other a dinner for a good progress, or give yourself points and decide what you get in return. The best reward ever is the knowledge that you gain.
Remember – learning is fun!
If you like languages in general, read how to say “I am vegetarian” in a whole bunch of them.

Thanks for the great tips! I’m always looking for new ways to improve my Spanish. For practicing Spanish in my spare time, I happen to really like SpanishDict. They’ve got great Spanish translation and other good, free resources. I like to use their flashcards when I’m on breaks at work. Good luck!

Hi Arielle, thanks for info. I love learning languages, including Spanish, too. It was in Spanish that singing helped understand many things without any extra effort. I also traveled in Spain, and started a long course which was so boring that I had to quit after 2 months.
