27 Slang Words You Should Start Using (Again)

This groovy list is sure to make you the hippest cat on your block. Check it out.

Slang is what makes an era. Slang is the way that young people make their generation stick out from the others. But sometimes, the slang gets old. How many times do you think you heard the word “cool” yesterday? Probably more than 50. Well, I think that this current generation needs to revamp some of its slang. The best way to do that would be to borrow from other eras. The 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s had some great slang words, so I’ve got a little “slang-tionary” for you below. If you start using these words (again), maybe they’ll catch on. And honestly, as much as I love the word “cool,” “groovy” just sounds better.

Slang-tionary

A gas: If something was really fun, it was “a gas.” Modern equivalent is a blast.

Ape: Used with “go,” “gone,” or “went.” To “go ape” was to explode. Modern equivalent is flip out.

Bad: Good or awesome. Sorta confusing if you think about it. Modern equivalent is cool.

Blow the doors off: To beat really badly in some kind of contest. It originally came from drag racing (If a car blew the doors off another car, it won handily) Modern equivalent is destroy.

Blitzed: Drunk. Usually very drunk. Modern equivalent is bombed.

Bookin’: If something was bookin’, it was going really fast. Usually a car. Modern equivalent is haulin’ ass.

Boss: When something was boss, that meant it was really cool. “Hendrix’ new album is boss.” Modern equivalent is cool.

Cat: A guy. “I gotta hang with some cats over there, man. I’ll be back though.” Modern equivalent is dude.

Choice: Great or awesome. Modern equivalent is bangin’.

Chop: To cut down verbally or otherwise make fun of. Modern equivalent is diss.

Dig: To understand. “You dig” meant “Know what I’m sayin’?” Modern equivalent is get.

Drag: Something that was a drag was boring, uninteresting, and generally just sucked. Modern equivalent is a bust.

Drawing Designs: When someone was looking over another person of the opposite sex. “Man, Bree was drawing designs on me all day.” Modern equivalent is check out.

Far Out: Excellent or great. Modern equivalent is cool.

Fox: Very attractive woman or girl. Modern equivalent is hottie.

Fuzz: The police. Modern equivalent is po-po or the Man.

Groovy: Nice or excellent. Modern equivalent is sweet.

Hacked: Really angry or exceedingly mad. Usually used to refer to parents. Modern equivalent is PO’d.

Heat: The police. Modern equivalent is cops.

Hip: Very good or excellent. Modern equivalent is cool.

Jam: To leave without ceremony. Modern equivalent is get (as in, I’m gonna get!).

Jazzed: Excited or happy. Modern equivalent is psyched.

Outta Sight: Great or awesome, fashionable. Modern equivalent is chill.

Right On: When someone said “right on,” they agreed with whatever was just said. Modern equivalent is I concur.

Righteous: Extremely fine or beautiful. Used in reference to cars and women. Modern equivalent is hot.

Solid: Good or favorable. Modern equivalent is cool.

Trollin’: To go out looking for girls. Modern equivalent is sargin’.

Well there ya have it. Some of the modern equivalents might be off, because I don’t exactly know the connotations of some of the words, but I think they’re pretty solid. If you liked any of these words, start using them and maybe they’ll catch on. I think we need some new slang, because the same old words are just getting boring. You dig?

Trollin’ is already a word, it refers to someone on a comment section (Mainly Youtube) typing obnoxious, aggresive and negative messages, either about the clip/article, or randomly against or commenters. Usually just to get attention.
-Troll:’This article SUCKS, yuo dont even now half the modern wrods!’
-Person A:’*Explains that only a few words were a bit off’
-Troll: ‘GTFO you noob, stop talking sht you cnt’
-Person B: ‘@Person A He’s just trolling, leave him in his fantasy world’
