As you probably know, Australians speak English, but many colloquial terms used down under may not be understood by the rest of the English speaking world. With that in mind, here’s a handy translation guide, with Australian words on the left and their common english counterpart on the right.

ABC – Australian Broadcasting Company

ASIO (pronounced AZIO) – Australian Security and Intelligence Organisation

Aussie – Australia/Australian

Aussie Rules – football (Australian Code)

award rate – minimum rate of pay
