Australian Slang Should Not be Used
U got it. another piece of school work. teacher told us to debate whether or not slang should be used.
AUSTRALIAN SLANG SHOULD NOT BE USED.
IT IS LAZY AND INCORRECT USE OF ENGLISH.
What’s so bad about Australian slang? It has become part of our language, and many words are bound to pop up soon. To us it is no longer slang. Just like many other countries we have borrowed words from here and there to make our own language.
Slang is defined as very informal words, phrases, or meanings no regarded as standard and often peculiar to profession, age, ect, by the Australian oxford mini dictionary. Informal to whom? The British maybe but they also use slang. Just not the same as us. Only the older generation that were brought up to have tea parties and play croquet think it is not a proper language.
Every generation created their own form of language. The new language is based on the old language with a few word changes. Most of this language is not meant to be used in formal writing like essays or letters but most of the time they seem to find they’re way in. kids are now used to communicating with such language.
The British also use slang. It is also mainly the younger generation but it is still used. One word is waffler. It is just like idiot but in slang form.
80% of Australians use slang. This was proven by a survey conducted by a student by the name Ashley McTaggart. This consisted of 5 peoples where only 1 had said that they did not use slang on a regular basis.
So in conclusion, many Australians use slang and so does most of the world. It has just became so common to us now that we just don’t notice.
