Body Language Today

Six ways to determine what a person says through his body.

This is a silent language where a person can say something without opening his mouth and there are some very common gestures that one can look at. There must have been research on what one does with ones body without having to use words.Sometimes just a hand gesture means the difference between closing a conversation or inviting someone over. Here I have listed a few different body movements and what they mean to the sociologist and the average person.

  1. When a person crosses his legs he may just feel more comfortable than by keeping his legs open. There are those that say a person wants to cut himself from socializing when he does that.
  2. Arm crossing can be connected to contesting what another person has said. In a group, when one crosses his arms he is against the general consensus.
  3. When a person is no longer interested in what you have to say he could start looking behind you or to the side. This means that there is a loss of attention too.
  4. If a person is unsure of what a person says, he may cock his head to a side.
  5. When someone wants to be natural then the facial muscle are relaxed when smiling, if not there is a good chance that the person is not being sincere.
  6. One way to show that you are disinterested in what the person has to say is to avoid making eye contact altogether, Eye contact and gentle nodding is a good indicator of interest.
