Meaning and definition
Cooperation refers to a form of social iteration wherein two or more persons work together to gain a common end. Cooperation normally brings about positive results. Cooperation brings people satisfaction and contentment.
In other words , co-operation means working together in the pursuit of like or common interest. It is an integration activity and is believed to be the opposite of competition. The word ‘co-operation’ is derived from two Latin words ‘co’ meaning ‘together’ and ‘operari’ meaning to work.
It is the joint activity in pursuit of common goals or shared rewards. it is goal oriented and conscious form of social interaction .
Definition
¨ According to Farichild: “ co – operation is the process by which individuals of groups combine their effort, in a more or less organized way for the attainment of common objective”.
¨ According to Merice and Eldredge: “Cooperation is a form of social interaction wherein two or more persons work together to gain a common end”.
Types of cooperation
¨ Direct cooperation: They cooperate directly without the help of other
¨ Indirect cooperation: Participating members are unknown and result is important
¨ Primary cooperation : Cooperation between primary groups like family, kinship, friends etc.
¨ Secondary cooperation : Cooperation between secondary groups like scouts, trade union etc.
¨ Tertiary cooperation : It is the cooperation between two parties or countries against another party.
