English

The proliferation of the English language, throughout the colonial empire.

It never ceases to amaze me at the extent to which the English language is used throughout civilisation,it is the most extensively spoken language in existence.I distinctly remember visiting France and whilst being asked for my papers in french by a french policeman,i responded in English that i didn’t,t speak french, the man was quite apoplectic and said in English, this is France you must speak french in France,to which i replied well unfortunately i can,t help you with that my friend.

Of course it,s a well known fact that the french are very jealous of the English influence on the rest of civilisation, thy have always felt it should have been them because they felt they colonised almost as much as the world as the English and were just as entitled to having there language spoken just as easily, the unfortunate thing for them was i think the prolific imposition and spreading of the gospel by the English with the publication of the King James bible, gave the English the upper hand, not to mention the literary prowess that the English had,the foremost of which was Shakespeare, who more or less is the father of our modern day culture in both theatre and film, these facts coupled with the English naval prowess have culminated in the English language being the most widely spoken language in the world.

Thus as much as i occasionally find myself stimulated at the thought of the romanticism of other languages, like french,Italian,Spanish etc,i am perfectly comfortable with my mastery of the English language secure in the knowledge that wherever i go,though it might not be the first language of that country,i will not be lost for words.
