Free online translators help your translating process.

According to Wikipedia, translation is the interpreting of the meaning of a text and the subsequent production of an equivalent text that communicates the same message in another language. The language  to be translated is called the “source language” and the final product of translation is in ¨target language.” Thus, translation focuses on meaning.

Nowadays, with IT development, text translation process has been computerized or  automated whether  by using computer program as an aid to translation or online free translator tools. The objective of translation by using online translator tool is to produce target text in target language which has the same meaning with source text.  However, the online translator tool has artificial mind and it is not perfect language expert.

When translating, we focuses on meaning. We need to consider context, conventions, idioms, and the rules of grammar of the two languages. We should respect the aspects in target language. Translation is not straightforward mechanical process; such a word-for-word correspondence between two languages. That is why when using online translator tool you should check whether source text has been translated into target text accordingly.

When you use online translator tool, there are points to ponder as follows:

  1. The Source Language text uses correct grammar and spelling
  2. There is no idiomatic or “flowery” language
  3. There is no slang words
  4. Text file should be changed into plain text. If you use Windows operating system, copy the text and paste it to the notepad then you will have plain text. Copy the plain text then paste it in the translation box.
  5. You should check spelling, grammar and meaning of Target Language

I have used on line translators but some of them are really bad. The Babelfish one is hopeless at translating Italian to English and vice versa. I get better results with a dictionary. Useful article for anyone wanting to translate single words, rather than phrases.

I often use Google Translate. While it is not perfectly fit for translating sentence, it is very good for translating words. A translator could get a lot of help from google translate, but should not rely totally to it.
