Fuck is a word that is generally considered vulgar and obscene. We all know the word ‘fuck’ largely refers to sexual intercourse. But the word ‘Fuck’ can also has various metaphorical meanings. It can also be used as an adverb, a verb, interjection, noun, and an adjective.
In most English-speaking countries, the word ‘fuck’ is often considered a highly offensive word. But wait a minute; it is never illegal to use the word ‘fuck’.
In 1971, the United States Supreme Court decriminalized the word ‘fuck’. The U.S. Supreme Court said that the mere public display of ‘fuck’ is protected under the first and Fourteenth Amendments. Therefore the word cannot be illegal.
In the year 1983, pornographic producer Larry Flynt represented himself in the U.S. Supreme Court during a libel case against him. Standing before the justices, enraged Larry Flint shouted at the top of his voice the words: “Fuck this court!”
Larry Flynt was subsequently arrested for contempt of court for the utterance of the word ‘fuck’ in court but the charges against him were later dismissed based on technicality.
Over the years, the word ‘fuck’ has been widely used in politics. Notable politicians such as United States presidents, mayors, Prime Ministers, Members of Parliaments etc have been seen and heard using the offensive but legal word ‘FUCK’.
