Fun with Words
Nine different word plays to enlighten your day.
1. Everything you read is wrong.
Well, certainly a lot of what you read on the Internet is wrong, but a good portion is right too. If the sentence is to be believed, and everything is wrong, then the sentence in itself is also wrong. If the sentence is wrong, then it proves itself correct, so how can it be wrong? This is an example of a paradox, something which is both true, and untrue, or contradicts itself.
2. I am the dogs house keeper, adoring provider, committed supervisor, responsible… impoverished.
The sentence above is one that grows, each word has one more letter than the word before it. Although I thought of the sentence myself, I don’t actually own a dog.
3. The growth hormones used in chicken production have been shown to transfer through eating chicken to cause a genetic disorder in human fetuses; not only is the baby born sterile, but their children will be sterile too!
Think about it? If you look at the details in the sentence there is an error, can you spot it?
4. First ladies rule the state and state the rule “Ladies first”.
This sentence is a word palindrome sentence, as word for word, it can be read backwards the same as it reads forwards, only the punctuation changes.
5. Never odd or even.
Both are palindrome sentences, reading letter for letter the same forwards and back. Another is, “Was it a car or a cat I saw?”
6. Eleven plus two = Twelve plus one
This is an anagram, the same letters rearranged to spell something else. Fans (or foes) of George Bush might be interested to know “He bugs Gore” is an anagram of George Bush.
7. Ambigram

This spinning word is an ambigram, it can be read while forwards, or rotated, other ambigrams are words that can be read the same though use of a mirror. It is more of an artists attempt to fool the eye than the way a word is spelt. (see palindrome)
8. This is the worst case Ontario!
Sometimes word play involves switching one common word for another slightly similar one as was done here, replacing the correct word, “scenario” with the Canadian province, Ontario. I have to give credit here to the character of Ricky in “The Trailer Park Boys” for coming up with this and many other similar lines.
9. What do you want, a cow or dog?
This sentence hides a word. The word that is hidden, is “word”, it uses the last letter in cow, the whole or in or, and d for dog, thus forming “word”. I am closing with this one because it is important to note. Some people use this technique to program your mind the way they want to. This is called Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or NLP. Supposing I wanted to manipulate you to think of me in a sexual light (which I really don’t, but it’s just the example that hits home to most people), I would make a point of saying to you, over and over things like “That’s excellent”.
I am not suggesting you go out and try it, I am merely offering a warning. If I thought it worked I would have filled this link with NLP suggestions for people to spay and neuter their pets.

This was fun! I’m the kind of person who has problems doing word searches, let alone palindromes. I admire those who can wrap their heads around this kind of word play. (I feel the same way about math problems that start out “A train leaving at 10:00, traveling…” or logic problems that start out “You are seating diplomats at a conference. Mr. X cannot endure Mr. Y, Mr. Z must…” and so on.)

A nice thing to consider if we knew how to read between the lines. Thanks for the eye opener always.
