I Do Not Agree: Popular Sayings Revisited
A more realistic view on some sayings.

Popular sayings that I cant quite agree with…and why!
- The grass is always greener on the other side
The moral of this story goes as follows. Things may appear to be better from a distance. Yet, once entwined with all the reality of a situation, it could be worse. The perfect example would be a relationship. You’re with someone, and things just aren’t working out. Not enough Prozac in the equation, you want out!
You meet another individual who seems more geared to yourself. They seem to have a like-minded approach to life. Yet, the grass is always greener on the other side.
However, sometimes it is! Life is full of chances, and sometimes the grass IS greener on the other side! It’s just that simple. So, I cannot agree with this saying I hear so very often.
So I’ll say
The grass may be greener on the other side; it’s all in the soil it’s planted in
- Its better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all
This is an easy one. Its better to taste the sting of love, then to never experience it. Well, if any of you have been in love, you may disagree. I think people may be better off if they don’t taste it, because you can miss something you never had. You can’t crave a cigarette if you never smoke. You will never want to drink a nice shot of Patron if you never had a buzz. So, with love, you cant miss what you never had
My revision for this statement is:
You cant miss, something you never had
3.Two wrongs don’t make a right
This statement may have some truth to it, but I would prefer a different format
Like
Two wrongs don’t make a right, but it feels damn good
Basically if someone wrong’s you, just turn the other cheek. I like to just say, were all human, and sometimes doing a wrong may not be right. However, sometimes a little revenge is justified. It’s a dog eat dog world. Don’t get eaten and spit out.
- You get what you put in
I can’t agree with this. I know so many people who work themselves to death. The only thing they seem to get out of life is stress, and debt. Then after working for a corporation for 15 years they get laid off and have to start all over again. I think its all luck of the draw. Some people draw a million faces and never get a dime. Yet, another can draw one smile and become renown. I think Ill change this one to:
Life is luck of the draw, you can’t win if you don’t play
Yes this is suppose to sound like the lottery
For the 5th and final old saying I have to edit is going to be this classic.
- Every cloud has a silver lining
This statement basically says:
No matter how bad a situation is good things will come from the bad. I have to quote Murphy’s Law on this one. Murphy’s Law says: Just when you think things can’t get any worse, they do. I use to think these were just negative statements made by a pessimistic guy who was a pilot. When I grew up a little more, and had the full taste of this world on my tongue I realized this mans genius! When things get bad, brace yourself for hell and high water.
Thank you for your time in sharing these very realistic views on popular sayings.

Something funny, I was going to do an article a while ago like this but with sayings that people say but don’t make any sense, but I couldn’t think of enough. I like this though. You have a lot of good points & views.

Great stuff – it’s amazing what cliched old sayings we regularly trot out without really stopping to think about what we’re saying!
