Italian and French are the World’s Most Romantic Languages according to a Survey

"Amore"-the French word for love is considered the most Romantic word in the world according to a survey conducted a few days before Valentine Day by linguistic experts.

“Amore”-the French word for love is considered the most Romantic word in the world according to a survey conducted a few days before Valentine Day by linguistic experts. The word abysmally beats the Italian version of the same word for love “amore”. Although the French word “Amore” attracted more votes than the Italian word “amore”, Italian still stood out as the most Romantic language in the whole wide world as shown by the many Italian words that dominated the top places in the list of most romantic words.

Bellissima which is both the Spanish and Italian word for “very beautiful” was voted the third most romantic word after “Amore” and “amore” while “tesoro” which again is both Spanish an Italian word for treasure came fourth.

According to London Reuters, about 320 respondents made of mainly Linguists were involved in this unique survey. After Italian, the second most romantic language in the world was found to be French followed immediately by  Spanish and  English which I had thought was perhaps the most romantic language came fourth.

The least romantic sounding way to say “I love you” in any language was voted by the linguistic experts and Japanese took the day! To many who got involved in the survey, the Japanese word “watakushi-wa anata-wo ai shimasu was completely out of touch with romance firstly because unlike “Bellisima” an Italian word and “tesoro” which were voted as extremely romantic, the Japanese version appeared too long and really less appealing to sensuality of the mind.

The other very unromantic sounding words after the Japanese one was Welsh words rydwi’ndy garu di” and “qaparha” in Klingon language spoken by Star Trek universe, all meaning “I love you” and yet the sounds of these words really seem so detached from the word love!

Very interesting indeed. I guess words for love should be short and sweet. :)

As long as I know it’s genuine, the language chosen is o.k.

I agree but I also like Spanish! Any ways, it is not how you spell it, it is how you say it that makes it sound romantic :)
