Learn a New Language: Top Five Tips to Get You Started

Your guide to learning a language successfully.

Decide what language is best for you.

When choosing a language be aware that some are easier to learn than others. Whether you’re doing it for fun, or taking it further, you should remember to study a language that is spoken by fairly large number of people. The languages may include: Chinese, Spanish, French or Japanese. This may also be a good time to look at the future, where would you want to go for a holiday or perhaps a scholarship. For example: If you wish to get a scholarship in Japan, there is little point studying Spanish.

Dedication.

Now that you’ve decided on a language, it is important to practice it. You may not have time to spent hours revising but at least a few minutes each day plays a big part. When you’re not practicing a language, you’re constantly forgetting it. Not a lot, but in a weeks time, the difference may be significant.

Formal before Informal.

Almost each language will have a formal way of saying it, and an informal. It is best to learn the formal (polite) bit first, before talking informally (friend to friend rather than stranger to stranger talk). This is so to avoid being rude and causing disrespect to others.

Grammar and Pronunciation

Grammar and Pronunciation is probably the most difficult aspect of learning a language. It takes years to master the grammar, let alone become fluent. A good way to perfect your pronunciation is listen to someone who speaks the language fluently. Unfortunately for grammar, there are not many alternatives apart from reading, memorizing and practicing.

Practice.

Now that you know what it means to study a new language, it is important to know strategies that best aid you in the process. One of the ways you can always study a language is online. Keep in mind, this can be difficult especially if you’re using an online translator as some of the words you look up, can be in different forms. For Example: Present, future or past. The safest way to learn to a language is through a private tutor or a qualified teacher or simply – by going to the country that speaks the language you wish to learn!

Just carying on from where you left of Chasov, knowing more than one language is great.

A classic example was me and my dad in a shop, we speak russian and live in an english speaking country. Quite handy if you want to keep your conversations private.
