Magandang araw! = Good day!
Magandang umaga! = Good morning!
Magandang hapon! = Good afternoon!
Magandang gabi! = Good evening!
Mabuhay! = Greetings! / Welcome! / Viva! (special)
Musta? / Kamusta? = Hi / Hello / How are you? (common / casual)
To Express How You Are:
Mabuti = Good
Masama = Bad
May sakit ako = I am sick.
Nagugutom (na) ako = I am (already) hungry.
Nau-uhaw (na) ako = I am (already) thirsty.
Pagod (na) ako = I am (already) tired.
Common Verbs:
Kain = to Eat
Inom = to Drink
Pahinga = to Rest
Common Nouns:
Pagkain = Food
Inumin = a Drink
Tubig = Water
Related Expressions or Adjectives:
Mainit! = It’s hot!
Ang lamig! = It’s cold!
Kadiri! = Disgusting!
Masarap = Delicious
Ang sarap = So delicious
Ang sarap-sarap! = So (very) delicious!
Salamat! = Thanks! / Thank you!
Maraming salamat = Thank you so much
Walang ano man = You’re welcome.
Wala iyon = You’re welcome (It’s nothing / Don’t mention it).
To Get to Know a Person or Make Friends (Q&A’s):
Anong pangalan mo? = What is your name?
____ ang pangalan ko. = ___ is my name.
Ako si ___. = I am ____.
Ako ay ___. = I am a/an ___.
Ilang taon ka na? = How old are you?
Ako ay ___ anyos. = I am ___ years old.
Taga saan ka? = Where are you from?
Saan ka nakatira? = Where do you live?
Saan ka nagtra-trabaho? = Where do you work?
Taga Amerika ako = I am from Amerika.
Nakatira ako sa New York. = I live in New York.
Nagtra-trabaho ako sa Manhattan. = I work in Manhattan.
To Know or Ask or Express Knowledge of a Certain Language:
Nagta-Tagalog ka ba? = Do you speak Tagalog? / Do you speak Filipino?
Medyo = A little bit.
Marunong akong mag-Ingles = I (know how to) speak English.
Marunong akong mag-Pranses = I (know how to) speak French.
Marunong akong mag-Intsik = I (know how to) speak Chinese.
Hindi ako marunong mag-German = I don’t (know how to) speak German.
Hindi ako maruing mag-Niponggo = I don’t (know how to) speak Japanese.
Marunong ako = I know how.
Hindi ako marunong = I don’t know how.
To Clarify:
Hindi ko maintindihan = I don’t understand.
Nakalimutan ko (kung pano sabihin) ang ___ sa Tagalog. = I forgot (how to say) ____ in Tagalog.
Paano mo sabihin iyon sa Tagalog? = How do you say that in Tagalog?
Paano (mo) iyon sabihin? = How (you) pronounce that?
Ganito… = This is how…
Hindi ko alam = I don’t know.
Anong ibig sabihin noon? = What does that mean?
(Puwede mong) paki-paliwanag? = (Could you) please explain?
(Puwede mong) paki-ulit? = (Could you) please repeat?
Pwedeng (pakisabi nang) dahan-dahan? = (Speak) slower please?
Puwede ba? = Could you?
Sige na? = Please?
O sige = Okay
To Say Good bye, etc:
Aalis na ako = I am going.
Saan ka pupunta? = Where are you going?
Kailangan ko nang umalis = I need to go.
Saan ka pupunta? = Where are you going?
Basta = Doesn’t matter
Wala ka nang pake doon = It’s none of your business.
To Make Peace:
Sori = I’m sorry.
Patawarin mo ako = Forgive me.
Kalimutan mo na lang iyon = Just forget it.
O.K. lang = It’s okay.
Ayos lang (sa akin) = (I) don’t mind.
To End a Converstaion:
Kailangan ko nang umalis = I need to go.
Sige = Okay.
Kita tayo mamaya = See you later.
Kita tayo uli = See you again.
Sa susunod… = Until next time… / Until then…
Sige, ba-bye = Okay, bye

Mahal kita… = I love you…
